Lawmaker seeks legitimization of kids born to minors (2:50 p.m.)
THOUSANDS of illegitimate children may soon become legitimate once a bill introduced by Cebu Representative Eduardo Gullas is enacted.
Gullas' House Bill (HB) 308 provides that children born to parents who are minors will become legitimate after the parents reach 18 years old and decide to marry each other.
Thus, an illegitimate child born before his or her parents could lawfully marry, would enjoy the same legal status and rights to succession as full-blood siblings conceived and born after their parents had reached 18 and had contracted marriage.
"This way, the stigma of thousands of illegitimate children will be erased. The children will be able to grow normally and establish their legal rights as legitimate offspring," Gullas said. (Sunnex) |
