Pampanga 'belatedly' put under state of calamity By Marna H. Dagumboy
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Pampanga has been put under a state of calamity after sustaining damage to properties estimated at P180 million during the onslaught of typhoons Chedeng and Dodong.
Last week, Dodong left 14 towns and this city heavily flooded and four people, three of them children, dead.

The province would have been declared under a state of calamity on Friday, but Governor Eddie Panlilio said the Provincial Board "derailed" the declaration.
But Vice Governor Joseller Guiao clarified that the governor submitted a letter and a draft resolution for the declaration. However, there was no note of urgency in his letter, the reason why the PB did not convene a special session.
Guiao said because Panlilio did not ask the PB to hold a special session, they calendared his request for their regular session.
"It is not our fault that the province was not put under a state of calamity immediately," he said.
Four people -- three of them children -- were killed after the devastation brought about by Chedeng and Dodong. The typhoons also left damages to the province's agriculture and infrastructure amounting to P180 million.
The fatalities were identified as Benedict Clyde Pangilinan, 2, of Barangay Del Carmen in this city; Elaine, 11, and Dhey Reyes, 8, both of San Matias, Sto. Tomas town; and Arnel Magcalas, 42, of Sta. Rita town. (Sun.Star Pampanga/Sunnex)
