2 brods killed, mother injured

CEBU CITY -- Two masked men on a motorcycle fired at a family in San Fernando, Cebu Friday morning, killing two brothers and wounding their 69-year-old mother and a housemaid.

Dead on the spot were Crispin Llanto Jr., 34, and his brother Emmanuel, 32. They succumbed to gunshot wounds in the head.

Their mother, Evangeline, and helper Lolita Villaber, 47, were rushed to the South General Hospital in Naga town because of bullet wounds in the thighs.

The two are considered vital witnesses to the shooting.

Chief Inspector Antonieto Cuyos, the San Fernando Police Station chief, is initially suspecting a land dispute as the reason for the attack.

The victims had just alighted from a passenger multicab when their assailants arrived on a black Yamaha DT 125 motorcycle and fired at them several times around 10:30 a.m.

The shooting occurred right in the front yard of the Llantos’ residence in Barangay Sangat.

After the shooting, the two masked men sped off towards the hilly area of San Fernando.

Cuyos, who personally responded to the incident, said they found six empty shells of a 9mm pistol and five empty shells of a .45 pistol at the crime scene.

Before this, the victims reportedly attended a hearing at the San Fernando Municipal Trial Court in connection with a case they filed against Agustine Dalo Jr., Teroy Enad and Andrei Racaza. That case stemmed from the illegal cutting of trees.

But Cuyos said it is premature to summon the three respondents because they have to look further yet into the motives behind the attacks. (GC of Sun.Star Cebu)
