Carlos Jumawan, a 50-year-old from Sitio Kapayas, Barangay Matiao in the City of Mati, was pronounced dead at the provincial hospital while more than 20 other passengers were injured and are now recuperating at the hospital.
Passengers claimed their vehicle was speeding thru the zigzagging road of Badas when it careened off the road and fell into to the ravine.
The bus driver was pinned to the steering wheel of his seat and it took rescuers almost an hour to extract him using a heavy equipment to rip off the metal.
Melgar was then rushed to a hospital in Davao City.
It was not known as of Sunday if authorities will be pressing charges against the driver and the bus company for the death of one and the injury of several other passengers. (Sun.star Davao/Sunnex)
