Zamboanga park bombing 'a scare tactic': police (10:00 a.m)
MANILA -- The top police official in Western Mindanao said the bomb that exploded in a Zamboanga City park was not meant to kill but scare people.
Western Mindanao Regional Director Jaime Caringal said the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) is a suspect in the bombing that injured 14 people. The explosive was placed under a bench in Pershing Park in Zamboanga City.
Caringal said the bomb was not meant to kill people "because it did not contain nails or shrapnel."
"We all know that is happening in Basilan and Sulu. We have long been preparing for diversions, spillover," said Caringal.(VR) |
