Arroyo’s political adviser quits (5:35 p.m.)

MANILA -- Presidential adviser for political affairs Gabriel Claudio has resigned from the Arroyo government for health reasons.

Claudio went on a one-month leave starting last August 6 to undergo spinal surgery for congenital scoliosis and compressed spinal nerves.

Claudio, who first underwent spinal surgery in the late 1970s, was advised by his doctors to rest for at least three months to fully recover from his spinal surgery.

Claudio had earlier dismissed politics as a big factor behind his decision to go on leave, noting that the President was well aware of his back problems since the start of her term. (JMR/Sunnex)
