CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- A police officer was killed and four others were injured in a failed raid at the home of a rape suspect in one of the barangays in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon province last Thursday.

Malaybalay City police said PO2 Roy Francisco was killed when suspect Moises Brandia jumped off the window of his home and dropped a grenade. The blast killed Francisco and injured his fellow officers.

Malaybalay City police precinct chief Rolando Beñas identified one of the four injured police officers as Crisanto Molina.

In a television interview, Molina admitted they did not anticipate that Brandia was carrying a grenade at the time they launched the raid.

Molina said they placed Brandia under surveillance for several days before going to his home.

Brandia is facing charges of rape, robbery, and physical injuries. The suspect's mother said Brandia had been hiding in the house for several days prior to the failed raid.

Beñas said they would pursue Brandia and vowed justice for the killed policeman and for those were hurt during the raid.

He added he would provide financial assistance to the police officer's family.

Francisco's kin, meanwhile, called for justice, issuing an appeal for Brandia's immediate arrest. (Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro/Sunnex)
