Baguio: Campbell kin to help set up Banaue tourist center (10 a.m.) By Jane Cadalig
BAGUIO CITY -- The kin of slain US Peace Corps volunteer Julia Campbell have pledged support for the put up of a tourism information center in Banaue, Ifugao.
Banaue Mayor Lino Madchino said the family of the late Peace Corps volunteer vowed they would help the local government in putting up the information center, where a marker dedicated to the late Campbell would also be set.
Campbell was found dead in Barangay Battad last April after a solo hike in the area. Battad is the site of the famous Banaue Rice Terraces.
"The family said they would help solicit funds for the construction of the building," Madchino told reporters in an interview yesterday.
Relatives of Campbell were in the province recently to attend the hearing on the murder charges filed against Juan Duntogan, the primary suspect in the killing of the Peace Corps volunteer. Part of this was a visit to the site where Campbell was killed. |
