1st ever pediatric liver transplant to be performed in RP (6:45 p.m.)

AN ALL-Filipino team of surgeons was formed to undertake the first ever pediatric liver transplant in the country on a four-year-old boy.

The operation will be performed next month at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) and the patient’s donors would be his parents.

Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) president Sergio Valencia said they are providing P4 million as financial assistance for the surgical procedure and provide P2 million for every transplant cases in the future.

The surgery would take at least 12 hours and about 30 doctors will compose the liver transplant team.

PGH spokesman Michael Tee said before they conduct future operations, an evaluation would have to be made first to determine its viability and success rate. (MSN/Sunnex)
