Initial police investigation reported that Mrs Piedad was on her way home from the Tefasco office in Ilang, Tibungco when ambushed by the gunmen.
Police Officer 3 Corsino Sendrejas of the Bunawan Police Station said the victim was driving her car along with a colleague identified as Al Maningo, supervisor of Shipping Lines in Tefasco, resident of Carmen, Davao del Norte, when a yellow Honda XRM suddenly appeared by their side.
The victim reportedly slowed down near the AJRM Wharf in Barangay Buhisan, Tibungco as traffic was slowly building there. It was then when the suspects suddenly fired at the victim.
Piedad sustained gunshot wounds in her left shoulder that resulted to her death. She was rushed to the Davao Medical Center where she was declared dead upon arrival.
Sendrejas said the suspects fled towards Panabo after the shooting. Authorities did not recover any empty shells at the crime scene.
Clueless
Authorities still has no lead as of this writing Saturday. They are looking into many possible angles, among them are job-related, personal or possibly political, since her husband is a councilor.
Representative Anton F. Lagdameo (2nd district, Davao del Norte) meanwhile offered his deepest sympathies and condolences to the family of Piedad.
"I have already spoken to the husband and I have assured him that the resources of the congressional office will be available to him and his family during this time of personal tragedy. I would also like to call on the assistance of the Davao City police and other agencies so that the perpetrators of this crime can be brought immediately to justice," Lagdameo said.
Former congressman TonyBoy Floirendo Jr. also offered his condolences and said: "I knew the victim's husband and family very well. And I would like to assure them that any assistance I can extend to them, I am at their disposal. It is times like these that the Panabo City community should rally together to come to the aide of one of their most dedicated public servant. (With Rex C.
