Colonel Benito de Leon, spokesman of the Philippine Army's 10th Infantry Division, said they are continuously monitoring the whereabouts of Sergeant Toto Gaila of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (Isafp).

Though refusing to divulge further details of their operation, de Leon said they are however positive that the sergeant is still alive and is in the hands of the rebel group operating in the said province.

De Leon said they have not received any demands coming from the NPA, adding that they are not negotiating with the rebels in anyway.

He assured Gaila's family though that the military is doing their best to rescue the abducted soldier from the hands of his rebel captors.

Philippine Army's 1001st Brigade commander Brigadier General Carlos Holganza earlier said Gaila and his captors are constantly on the move.

He said though that the rebels are treating Gaila well and the soldier is now being tried under the kangaroo court of the NPA. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
