Baguio: Beneco seizes 130 tampered meters in Benguet (10:25 p.m.)
By Jane Cadalig

BAGUIO--More than 100 tampered meters were confiscated by the Benguet Electric Cooperative (Beneco) in at least three villages in the town of Buguias but no case was filed in court against those who engaged in the illegal act.

Engineer Gregory Waytan, manager of Beneco's northern sub-area department, said the confiscation came after observations that several households have decreased their monthly electric consumption by more than 50 percent.

Upon inspection, Waytan said Beneco personnel found out that 130 meters were calibrated and most were confiscated from marginalized consumers or those subsidized by other customers.

Barangays Lengaoan, Bangao and Abatan were identified as areas involved in meter tampering as noted in June. (Sun.star Baguio)
