Typhoon damage in N. Occidental pegged at P18-M (11:42 a.m.)

BACOLOD CITY -- Provincial Agriculturist Igmedio Tabianan reported partial damages, which totaled P18,130,535.94 on crops and plantation fields, wrought by almost nine days of continuous rain in eight areas of Negros Occidental.

The damages recorded, according to Tabianan, are from six municipalities namely San Enrique, Pulupandan, Valladolid, Murcia, Isabela, Pontevedra, and two component cities –- Bago and La Carlota.

Tabianan deplored the loss of livelihood among 1,912 farmers working on a total of 6,976 hectares of palay, which submerged in floodwaters for more than a week.

Also, a similar partial report was submitted by Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena covering damages affecting livestock and poultry in eight areas namely Pontevedra, Pulupandan, Kabankalan, San Enrique, Valladolid, La Carlota, Bago, and Murcia.

Decena reported P644,230 worth of domesticated animals in 44 barangays that were affected. But his report did not include individual proprietors’ affected. (Gil Alfredo B. Severino of Sun.Star Bacolod)
