Armm Regional Police Director Joel Goltiao said he will also disarm the group of the Matalam family and the late barangay Limbalod chairman Tayatog Guiama, after he received information that both groups are massing up troops.
Goltiao said government troops are on maximum alert in order to avert further bloodshed between the two warring families.
Authorities believe that the rival groups are preparing for an armed combat. The Armm Regional Police Mobile Group sent two companies in Datu Montawal and Pagalungan, Maguindanao who will support the other two battalions from the Philippine Army to stop a bloody encounter between the two warring families.
Checkpoints have been established along the national highway to check vehicles passing through Montawal and this town.
Several days ago, the armed groups of Matalam and Guiama crossed paths, causing the death of 11 and wounding of other nine, in Lumayong Bridge in Kabacan, North Cotabato.
The two families have been at war for political reasons.
Armored tanks were placed in each municipality and along the highway in Datu Montawal and Pagalungan to ensure peace and order after the camp of Guiama threatened to avenge his death.
Matalam and his wife are said to be in critical condition and are being treated at an undisclosed hospital.
Matalam was a former vice mayor of Pagalungan, Maguindanao. Matalam belongs to an influential Muslim political clan, and police are investigating whether the attack was politically motivated.(Edgar Fuerzas)For more Philippine news, visit Sun.Star General Santos.
