Doble’s wife denies being detained by military intelligence (4:40 p.m.)
MANILA -- Arlene Doble, the estranged wife of ex-intelligence agent Vidal Doble, who claimed to have wiretapped the conversation between President Arroyo and former poll official Virgilio Garcillano, disputed her husband’s claim that they were detained at the intelligence compound at the height of the “Garci” exposé.
Mrs. Doble appeared before the senate panel Tuesday morning to shed light on the reported detention and kidnapping of her husband at the San Carlos Seminary.
Ex-intelligence agent Doble had said the military wanted to prevent him from testifying the “Hello Garci” recordings by keeping his family under their custody.
However, Arlene disputed her husband’s claim that they were never detained nor restrained by agents of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP) in June 2005.
She said it was in fact Doble who advised her to contact ISAFP for their transfer to Manila from Kidapawan City for their protection.
She further told senators that in her phone conversation, she was informed by her husband that lawyer Samuel Ong, former deputy director of the National Bureau of Investigation, held him hostage at the San Carlos Seminary.
She said during the time that they were at ISAFP they were free to roam around the headquarters and even outside Camp Aguinaldo. (Sunnex) |
