Shares rise 0.2% on select buying in blue chips (6:00 p.m.)
MANILA-- Shares climbed for the second straight day Tuesday, lifted by gains in select blue chips.
The 30-company Philippine Stock Exchange Index inched 6.22 points, or 0.2 percent, higher to P3,440.67.
"The market is taking a breather following recent strong gains, and we will likely stay in this consolidation mode for the time being," said Westlink Global Equities Chairman Rommel Macapagal.
The benchmark PSE index has advanced 4.6 percent over the last five sessions.
International Container Terminal Services Incorporated surged 4.4 percent to P36 on follow-through buying after its overseas unit bagged a contract to develop and operate a container terminal in Georgia's Batumi port.
Globe Telecom Incorporated rose 3.2 percent at P1,445. Rival Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company dropped 0.2 percent at P2,800.
Gainers outnumbered decliners 65 to 46, with 48 stocks unchanged.(AP)
