‘Dishonesty’ complaint filed against TV crew in drunk-cop incident
CEBU CITY -- A complaint for dishonesty was filed Wednesday against the ABS-CBN television crew involved in the incident with Senior Inspector Jose Liddawa Jr.
Noel Archival, Liddawa’s lawyer, filed the complaint against Ramil Paican, Joel Noel, Samuel Trangia, and two unidentified persons before the ABS-CBN management.

Archival accused Paican and his companions of “lying” in their news report that showed a drunk Liddawa, whose vehicle collided with that of the television crew.
The accusations against Senior Inspector Jose Matnao Liddawa Jr. by the ABS-CBN crew are contrary to the ABS-CBN theme which is “Dapig sa kamatooran, dapig sa katawhan,” the complaint said.
Station manager Veneranda “Tata” Cinco Sy said they will not condone any misbehavior among their staff.
She said ABS-CBN management is already looking into the matter and if the allegations are proven, they will not hesitate to impose sanctions, including dismissal.
Attached to the complaint were the affidavits of Liddawa, Daniel Bravo, and Police Officer Calixto Perez.
Liddawa narrated that last September 18, he was on his way home with Bravo when the vehicular accident occurred.
His Hyundai Sedan collided with the television network’s service vehicle near Super Metro Mandaue in Barangay Maguikay.
Liddawa said he immediately alighted from the car to check the damage but was surprised when someone who got off the Nissan Frontier of ABS-CBN punched him hard on the face.
He identified the person as Noel, the cameraman.
The police official said he went back to his car to get his gun but he didn’t find it because Bravo hid it.
“Unable to find my gun, I got out of my car again very angry and in order to get even, I boxed Noel while informing at the same time that I am a policeman, hoping that they will calm down. But to my dismay, the crew brushed aside my statement, hence an altercation ensued,” read Liddawa’s statement.
The police officer also accused Paican, Noel, Trangia, and their two companions of taking turns in mauling him, causing him to lose consciousness.
Bravo corroborated Liddawa’s statements. He said he alighted from the car to stop the crew from hurting Liddawa, but the crew also attacked him. He tried to run but the crew caught him and beat him up.
As for Police Officer Perez, he said he saw the crew mauling Bravo so he came to Bravo’s rescue.
Their statements are contrary to the ABS-CBN news report on the incident.
The report said that after the collision, Liddawa and the television crew got out of their vehicles. An argument erupted and Liddawa punched Noel. Liddawa also had a confrontation with reporter Paican.
The ABS-CBN news report also said Liddawa fell on the ground and lost consciousness and that the television crew took him to a private hospital in Cebu City. (KNT of Sun.Star Cebu)
