Impeachment case filed vs poll chief
MANILA (Updated 4:16 p.m.) -- An opposition politician filed an impeachment complaint Thursday against Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Benjamin Abalos before the House of Representatives over charges of bribery in connection with the broadband deal.
Iloilo Vice Governor Rolex Suplico in his 64-page complaint accused Abalos with culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption, and bribery.

Representatives Teofisto Guingona III (Bukidnon), Teodoro Casino (Bayan Muna, Partylist), and Ma. Isabelle Climaco (Zamboanga City) endorsed Suplico’s complaint.
The complaint against Abalos stemmed from a Senate hearing Wednesday in which former socioeconomic secretary Romulo Neri said Abalos offered him P200 million to endorse a Chinese company's bid.
Abalos denied the allegation and said he will not step down, while the contract has been suspended. (AP/Sunnex)
