Storm Hanna leaves 9 dead in its wake
MANILA -- Nine people, including three young girls, died while another remained missing due to tropical depression Hanna, a top disaster official reported Sunday.
National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) executive officer Glenn Rabonza said eight of the fatalities died in a landslide in Hinyon town in Ifugao Province Saturday.

The landslide took place along a road in Barangay Upper Pitawan in Hingyon at 10 p.m., burying two houses.
He identified the fatalities in the landslide as Johani, 3; Megan, 5; Ruby, 7, all surnamed Manwong; Erma Hiadan, 50; Julia Linglingon, 52; Hiadan Cupilyo, 80; Joel Linglingon, 27; and Henry Linglingon, 55.
Rommel Linglingon, 30, remained missing as of 12 noon Sunday and was subject of a search and rescue or retrieval operations by the Ifugao Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council.
Nine-year-old Denver Bogbog was injured in the same incident. He was taken to the Ifugao General Hospital.
The ninth fatality was Richard Anonuevo, 25, whose body was recovered by troops from the Philippine Marines Reaction Force in Bagong Silang, Payatas, Quezon City. Rabonza did not say what the cause of Anonuevo’s death was.
In Misamis Oriental, at least 300 families or 1,200 persons from 16 barangays in Balingasag town have been affected by rains brought by Hanna. The protection dike in Barangay Lingagao was also damaged.
In Camiguin, at least two families were trapped along the Dinanggasan River in Catarman. The NDCC also said the drainage along a highway in Poblacion, Catarman collapsed.
In Sarangani, a chapel and a village hall were both destroyed. Also, huge waves damaged 29 houses along the coast of Sitio San Nicolas in Barangay Lun Padidu in Malapatan town.
In Marikina City, 23 families or 136 persons have been evacuated to an elementary school. The families lived near the Marikina River, which was at risk of overflowing.
Hanna is expected to continue enhancing the southwest monsoon, which will bring in more rains over the western sections of Central and Southern Luzon and the Visayas.
Hanna was located at 500 kilometers west of Iba, Zambales as of 10 a.m. yesterday and was moving towards Vietnam. (Sunnex)
