10 tons of rotten meat seized in Pasay (5:53 p.m.)
MANILA -- Authorities seized a container van with 10 tons of spoiling pork meat in a routine inspection of the City Veterinary Office in Pasay City.
City Veterinarian Rodolfo Bernasor said the meat, packed into wooden crates and stored unrefrigerated was intercepted at about 1:20 a.m. Wednesday along Park Avenue where workers were busy unloading the product from a 20-foot container van.
Bernasor said his men were conducting routine operation as part of the campaign against the proliferation of hot meat in the city’s public market when they saw the container van.
He said when his men checked the van’s content they were confronted with a bad smell prompting them to inspect the rest of the goods inside. (AH/Sunnex)
