According to information gathered by Sun.Star SuperBalita from the Shariff Kabunsuan Police Provincial Office, the incident occurred at around 11 p.m. on October 29.
Initial investigations reveal that Lumbus was on his way out of the Comelec municipal office in Sultan Kudarat where the counting of ballots were done and where he was just proclaimed as barangay captain of Balot when shot by an unidentified gunman in the forehead and chest.
Lumbus was with his supporters, who all claimed they did not see what happened. Lumbus was declared dead in a Cotabato City hospital.
Sultan Kudarat Police Chief Esmael Mama said there is a possibility the motive for the crime is related to the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataaan (SK) elections.
Police are still conducting further investigation to identify the people responsible for the victim's death. (Edgardo Fuerzas/Sun.Star Davao)
