8 poll bets tie for barangay, SK posts
By Ernie N. Olson Jr.

BAGUIO CITY -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said it was scheduled to break the tie for at least four barangay and SK posts in Baguio City on Monday.

City election officer Maribelle Uminga said they are still reviewing the tallies based on the election documents forwarded by the city's 129 barangays to their office.

So far, she said, election personnel have discovered four ties in Baguio -- two between candidates for barangay leaders in Teodora Alonzo and Imelda Village, one between two people vying for the seventh barangay council seat in Teodora Alonzo, and another between two aspirants for the SK chairman post in Hillside.

In Teodora Alonzo, a tie was initially declared between candidates Romualdo Labausa and Ma. Teresa Rimando. They both got 87 votes.

In the same barangay, council bets Sonny Espiritu and Merla Pascual also got 89 votes each.

The ties occurred after 118 of 271 registered Teodora Alonzo voters cast their ballots.

In Imelda Village, candidates for barangay chairman Santos Casuga and Socorro Fernandez each received 214 votes.

A fourth tie was discovered in Barangay Hillside, where candidates for SK chairman Richard Masadao and Robin de Guzman got seven votes each, evenly dividing the 14 ballots cast. Only 24 SK members registered in the barangay.

Uminga said aside from identifying the official winners in each barangay, Comelec also has to ascertain the percentage of votes cast in Baguio.

Sun.Star earlier reported that 136,799 voters are officially registered in Baguio's 812 clustered precincts as of this year. (Sun.Star Baguio/Sunnex)
