He said that if the former lawmaker's condition continued to improve then he might be transferred to a regular room from the ICU where he was brought after the accident.
On Friday, he managed to communicate with members of his family, Nubla said, through writing and body signals. The former senator cannot speak as yet due to a tube attached through a respirator to help him breathe.
But Nubla clarified that the former lawmaker was not on "life-support," adding that the tube was inserted to help him breathe because his fractured ribs that make breathing difficult and painful.
Even a blood clot located after he underwent a Computerized Tomography (CT) scan was found not "life-threatening and would disappear in time."
"The threat to Atty. Saguisag's life was progressively decreasing over the past few hours," Dr. Victor Alvarez said.
He said there is no more need for a surgical intervention for Saguisag.
Alvarez heads a team of specialists composed of five doctors including a cardiologist, a chest specialist and an orthopedic surgeon attending to the medical needs of the 68-year-old former lawmaker.
Saguisag, his wife Dulce, their companion Rhea Obong, a dance instructress, and their driver figured in an accident along the Osmeña Highway at past 2 a.m. Thursday when a dump truck smashed into their Toyota Hi-Ace Grandia van.
Saguisag's wife was declared dead on arrival when they were first brought to the Ospital ng Makati while the former senator and the driver were transferred to the Makati Medical Center for further treatment.
Obong, who sustained the least injuries, was released from the Ospital ng Makati (OSMAK) hours after the accident after undergoing treatment.
