Davao: Duterte, Nograles might meet tonight (2:50 p.m.) By Ben O. Tesiorna
DAVAO -- Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Representative Prospero Nograles (1st district, Davao City) could possibly meet Wednesday night as the two officials are expected to welcome President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo upon her arrival at the Davao International Airport from her trip in Singapore.
Mayor Duterte has already confirmed that he will be at the Davao International Airport to meet the President. Nograles meanwhile said he might take the last flight to Davao from Manila as he has a lot of things to attend in Congress Wednesday.
"May be able to catch the last flight out of Manila because today we put impeachment complaint in the calendar of business and may start plenary debates on justice committee report approval. My floor presence is necessary now and over the weekend here. Possible voting and explanation of vote by Monday," Nograles said.
When asked if he is ready for a possible encounter with Duterte at the airport, Nograles said "let's see how it goes".
Nograles and Duterte are at odds after the mayor accused the lawmaker of ordering the arrest of Nelson "Tata" Sala who supported the bet of Duterte for barangay chief of Talomo in the last barangay elections. It was learned that Nograles' bet lost due to Sala.
Last November 11, Duterte hurled invectives at Nograles for a full one hour in his television program "Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa". Nograles hits back by saying he is not scared of the mayor.
Recently, Nograles demanded for a performance report from Duterte saying that the people must know where the P3 billion annual budget of the city went. Duterte said there is no need for such a report since it can be seen just about everywhere from the various projects the City Government has implemented. |
