Health experts to monitor condition in evacuation centers (4:17 p.m.)

MANILA -- A team of health experts was deployed Monday in different evacuation sites in Luzon to monitor possible outbreak of diseases as a result of typhoon Mina.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said the public health team leaders will visit evacuation centers to ensure implementation of precautionary measures to avert any pandemic.

"When there is poor sanitation and overcrowding, outbreak of diseases like measles, acute respiratory infection and diarrhea is possible so our people in the field have been alerted about this," Duque said.

According to Duque they have also deployed DOH teams during the onslaught of typhoon Lando which killed several people in Bicol region and leaving several other homeless.

DOH personnel are also on stand-by 24 hours a day, Duque said noting that "we also made sure that vital medicines are available.
