Westmincom troops join in Faeldon's hunt
By Bong Garcia

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Troops from the military's Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) joined in the manhunt for the re-capture of fugitive Marine Captain Nicanor Faeldon, said a military official.

Westmincom information officer Major Eugenio Batara Jr. said the troops are on the lookout for Faeldon to ensure that no place within Westmincom areas will serve as his safe haven.

Westmincom areas of jurisdiction are the provinces of Lanao del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga Sibugay, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi, and this city.

It will be recalled that after his escape from military custody in December 2005, Faeldon sent videos to some of the television stations that shows himself standing at the back of Westmincom gymnasium while sending text messages.

Faeldon was arrested a month later together with his military lawyer-girlfriend in Malabon, Metro Manila.

Last November 29, he managed to slip from a police cordon at the height of the short-lived siege in Manila Peninsula Hotel in Makati City, the country's business capital.

The National Government has offered P1 million reward to anyone who can provide the military and police information on the location of Faeldon.

Philippine National Police chief Avelino Razon Jr. described Faeldon as armed and dangerous.

He (Faeldon) is among the members of the mutinous Magdalo soldiers undergoing trial in connection with the 2003 Oakwood mutiny.

As an officer, Faeldon spent many years serving in the intelligence community and he was once a member of the Force Recon, an elite unit of the Philippine Marines Corp (PMC).

Major Batara said all of the Westmincom troops have been alerted to be on the lookout for Faeldon and arrest him once sighted. (Sunnex)
