2 bus firms in Davao won't join transport strike (7:53 p.m.)

DAVAO CITY -- Two of the biggest bus companies have confirmed not to participate in the nationwide transport strike to be staged by transport groups starting Thursday until Friday.

In a telephone interview, a clerk of the Yellow Bus Lines Inc., who refused to be identified, and Alvin Deiparine, radio operator of the Davao Metro Shuttle, told Sun.Star Davao Wednesday that there is no directive from their respective managements to suspend travel.

"Our objective here is to provide convenient conveyance to passengers. The issue of oil price increase has been there for some time now but management has not issued any directive about joining the strike. Had management intended to join, then we would have received the directive this morning," said Deiparine.

The City Government, for its part, will be fielding vehicles to convey workers to and from work. Both local and national government offices will be open Wednesday. (Sun.Star Davao)
