Lapu-Lapu to spend P714T for Xmas party

CEBU CITY -- The Lapu-Lapu City Government is spending about P713,000 for the Christmas party of its employees on Friday next week.

The amount will be taken from the National Government's aid to local government units deposited under the trust fund account.

Radaza asked the City Council to approve the P713,761.54 allocation for the Christmas party.

There are 1,000 City Hall employees.

Mayor Arturo Radaza's administration has been criticized for failing to deliver basic services. Some city officials, including the mayor, have also been accused of corruption.

"Kalimtan lang usa nato nang mga issue. Atong tahuron ang Christmas spirit. Maglipay usa ta. Ceasefire usa (We just forget about the issues for now. Let's give in to the Christmas spirit. We make merry. We have a ceasefire)," Vice Mayor Mario Amores said.

Only the regular employees and the department heads will enjoy the party because since Radaza got reelected last May 14, he did not renew the contract of the casual employees whose employment expired last March and April.

The non-renewal adversely affected some basic services, particularly garbage collection.

Last November, City Hall workers received their 13th month pay, while each member of the City Council got PP4,165 bonus and P1,000 cash gift.

Amores said the party is an expression of gratitude of Mayor Radaza to the employees for their untiring service and support to his administration.

He said the employees helped transformed Lapu-Lapu into a highly urbanized city. (AIV/Sun.Star Cebu)
