Arroyo's net satisfaction rating drops down: SWS (7:56 p.m.)
MANILA -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s grant of conditional pardon to former president Joseph Estrada last October 25 did not improve Arroyo’s satisfaction rating, even among those who believed that Estrada’s pardon was "good for the country", the November 30 to December 3 survey of the Social Weather Stations (SWS) showed.
Estrada was granted conditional pardon for the crime of plunder.
The survey, which had 1,200 respondents, found that 54 percent agreed with the grant of pardon to Estrada compared to 23 percent who disagreed.
Arroyo’s net satisfaction rating was net -22 (30 percent satisfied vs. 52 percent dissatisfied) among those who support the pardon and -12 (36 percent satisfied vs. 48 percent dissatisfied) among those who were opposed to it.
Support for the Estrada pardon was prevalent in all areas, with net agreement highest at 45 (63 percent agree vs. 18 percent disagree) in Metro Manila, 38 (60 percent agree vs. 22 percent disagree) in Mindanao, 32 (54 percent agree vs. 22 percent disagree) in Luzon, and 15 (44 percent agree vs. 29 percent disagree) in the Visayas.
It was much stronger in Class E, with net agreement at 35 (56 percent agree vs. 21 percent disagree) and in Class D, with 33 (55 percent agree vs. 22 percent disagree), compared to class ABC, with only 15 (44 percent agree vs. 30 percent disagree).
The SWS survey also showed Arroyo’s net rating dropping from -11 (34 percent satisfied vs. 45 percent dissatisfied) in September 2007 to -16 (32 percent satisfied vs. 48 percent dissatisfied).
Arroyo’s net ratings were close to neutral in the first and second quarters of 2007, before returning to negative levels again.
The drop in Arroyo’s ratings was attributed to loss of support in Mindanao and the Visayas, and the worsening dissatisfaction in Metro Manila.
Satisfaction with Arroyo declined in Mindanao from -1 in September to net 20 in December, from 1 to -9 in the Visayas, and from -24 to -34 in Metro Manila. But it recovered in Luzon, from -18 in September to -12 in December. (JMR/Sunnex) |
