Lintuan witnesses may undergo lie detector test
By Carlo P. Mallo

DAVAO CITY -- The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Southern Mindanao might subject the three witnesses of the murder of broadcaster Ferdinand "Batman" Lintuan to a lie detector test, to assess the veracity of their statements.

This is because of the three, only two witnesses positively identified the suspect while the third, a teenage boy who was in the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents, failed to identify the suspect, said CIDG-Southern Mindanao chief and team leader of Task Force Batman Benhur Mongao in an interview Saturday.

A suspect, identified as Oliver Antoc, has been arrested Friday night due to illegal possession of firearms and illegal drugs. A caliber .45 was confiscated in the possession of Antoc and sachet of methamphetamine or locally known as shabu.

A protocol now in police operations here in the region is that anyone arrested and found to have in his possession a caliber .45 is turned over to the CIDG. Two empty shells of a caliber .45 was recovered from the crime scene of Lintuan's slay.

The suspect was turned over to the CIDG.

Mongao said there is also a need to check upon the witnesses to ascertain their credibility.

The first two witnesses, a mother and her son, first appeared after the shooting incident last December 24. The third witness, the teenage boy, was brought in by NBI agents from the NBI central office in Manila.

Mongao said he has not established any motive yet behind the killing of Lintuan.

Mongao added that the CIDG and Task Force Batman are practicing extra caution and diligence in the investigation of the case of Lintuan.

"Ayaw naming mapalpak (We don't want to make a mistake)," Mongao said. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
