Arroyo told to consider PPCRV nominees for election chief post (9:52 p.m.)
MANILA -- The church-based election watchdog Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) on Friday urged President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to include their nominees for the chairmanship of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
"We hope that Malacaņang would consider them studiously. Screen out also our nominees," PPCRV national chairperson Henrietta de Villa said.
De Villa, a former ambassador to the Vatican, is endorsing former Supreme Court (SC) justice Jose Melo and lawyer Carlos Medina, who is also the chairman of Legal Network for Truthful Elections (Lente).
The PPCRV recommended the two candidates after screening the names that were given to them.
"The PPCRV is part of a search group composed of Lente, Volunteers for Clean Elections (V-Force), National Secretariat for Social Action (Nassa), National Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) and other stakeholders and we agreed that we will submit all our nominees and then we will choose who among them," de Villa said.(MSN/Sunnex) |
