Court grants Ang's trip to US (9:55 p.m.)

MANILA -- The Sandiganbayan allowed on Friday probationer Charlie "Atong" Ang to travel abroad to attend the wedding of is daughter in the US on January 19.

Ang, a former plunder co-accused of pardoned former President Joseph Estrada, was allowed to leave for the US not later than January 17 and to return to the Philippines not later than January 24, inclusive of travel time.

In a resolution signed by Associate Justices Francisco Villaruz Jr., Diosdado Peralta and Rodolfo Ponferrada, the Special Division granted Ang's request to attend the wedding of his daughter, Joaneivee, at the Guardian Angel Cathedral at No. 336 Cathedral Way, Las Vegas, Nevada.

The eight-day travel authority granted by the anti-graft court to Ang was subject to several conditions, including the posting of a travel bond amounting to P750, 000.

The court also required Ang to secure a Philippine passport from the Department of Foreign Affairs and an American visa from the US Embassy. (Sunnex)
