DAVAO CITY -- A councilman and his sister-in-law were killed when undetermined number of rebels attacked their village in Montevista, Compostela Valley Tuesday evening.
Major Medel Aguilar, chief of the Army's 5th Civil Relations Group, identified the victims as Noel Lintapan, Barangay Libanon councilman, and his sister-in-law Evangeline.

Reports reaching Sun.Star Davao showed the attack happened at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
The rebels sprayed bullets on the Lintapan residence. It was learned that Noel was also a Cafgu member aside from being a barangay official.
According to Aguilar, the reason for the attack was because of Lintapan's active participation in the government's fight against the insurgence in the area.
"Motive was to eliminate Lintapan who was supporting the government's effort to clear his community from the influence of the underground communist movement," Aguilar said.
He added that the New People's Army (NPA) guerillas also attacked Evangeline to "silence her as a probable witness."
The victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the head that caused their death. The rebels used caliber .45 pistol in the attack.
Hot pursuit operation against the rebels is ongoing as of this writing Wednesday. (BOT/JMT/Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
