Floods damage P17M infra, crops in Davao Norte By Carlo P. Mallo
DAVAO CITY -- The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Southern Mindanao has placed Davao Region on heightened alert as rains continue, which could trigger flashfloods and landslides.
This early, damage to crops and infrastructure in Asuncion, Davao del Norte has reached P17 million due to flashfloods.

In an interview Monday, OCD Regional Director Minda Morante said the latest report they received on the floods in Asuncion has placed the damage to crops at P11,551,625 and infrastructure damages amounting to over P6 million.
The report said that the Saug and Ilog rivers in Asuncion overflowed last January 4 due to heavy rains. At least 13 barangays were affected including 6,777 families or over 25,841 persons. No casualties were reported.
There were no evacuations yet although the local government unit has already been providing relief assistance to the affected families.
OCD has not received any other reports on floods and landslides in other parts of Southern Mindanao.
The Davao region has been on alert for the past weeks due to the incessant rains. The rainy weather is expected to last until February.
Some of the areas closely monitored by the OCD are Diwalwal in Compostela Valley, municipalities of Carmen, Kapalong, and Dujali in Davao del Norte, and Bansalan in Davao del Sur. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
