Arroyo flies to Switzerland, UAE despite destabilization reports (12:31 p.m.)
MANILA -- A Malacaņang official said President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will go to Switzerland and United Arab Emirates (UAE) on January 22 to 28, unmindful of the reported fresh destabilization attempts on her government.
Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye said Arroyo would leave Manila for Zurich on January 22, the same day that the supposed rally to dislodge the President would take place.
The Cabinet supposedly tackled in an executive session the alleged propaganda documents of the destabilizers, purportedly called "Hatol at Hatak" which stated that the Armed Forces' loyalty does not reside in Arroyo as commander-in-chief.
Cabinet officials who attended the meeting have said most of the event was "an executive session" and refused to disclose the matters discussed.
Bunye said after meeting with international businessmen in Zurich, Arroyo would proceed to Davos where will attend the World Economic Forum.
He said Arroyo would speak on gender equality and would actively participate in the forum discussions.
As in Switzerland, he said Arroyo would also tell businessmen in the UAE that the Philippines is one of the best values of investments in Asia, owing to her government's reform programs.
He said the trip will also show that the President is unperturbed by the destabilization reports against her administration. (JMR/Sunnex) |
