ZAMBOANGA CITY -- A top military official disclosed that the suspects in the January 5 killing of a Philippine Army officer in Zamboanga del Norte have already escaped to another country.

Major General Nehemias Pajarito, chief of the Army's 1st Infantry Division, said the suspects have fled to Sabah, Malaysia via the southern backdoor.

Killed last January 5 was Captain Rodrigo Selga of the Army's 44th Infantry Battalion based on the so-called triple SB areas of Zamboanga del Norte.

The triple SB covers the towns of Sibuco, Sirawai, Siocon, and Baliguian.

Selga was coming out from a store after buying a bottle of an energy drink when shot dead by the suspects in Barangay Sirawai proper, Sirawai town.

Pajarito said a criminal case has been filed in court against the suspects and that the corresponding warrant of arrest was already issued.

He said the motive of the incident was personal grudge since Selga got the ire of a suspected drug pusher in Sirawai town.

He also said Selga has just returned from a drug buy-bust operation jointly conducted by soldiers and Sirawai town policemen on the day of the incident. (Sunnex)
