Mayor: Lintuan's assassins already 'out'
By Ben O. Tesiorna

DAVAO CITY -- The assassins of veteran broadcaster Fernando "Batman" Lintuan are no longer in the region, said Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

Duterte, in issuing the statement, challenged the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to send in their best investigators to solve the case.

Duterte said he has information that those responsible for Lintuan's death are already "out."

The mayor did not elaborate though if what he meant was out of the country or just out of Davao region. "Basta someday malalaman nyo rin yan (Someday, you will know it)," he said.

Duterte has been saying that he has more information than the investigating body created by the government to probe the incident.

But the mayor said though he is not keen on giving this (information) to the authorities since he is considered as one of the suspects.

"I told you that here in Davao, I know will everything. I know what really happened to Lintuan," said Duterte.

According to Duterte, he is just waiting for some persons to formally accuse him over Lintuan's death before divulging the information he has.

"Inaantay ko lang na akusahan nila ako (I am only waiting for them to file charges against me) then I will make public all the information I have in hand," Duterte said.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has no plan to ask Mayor Duterte about the "detailed information" he has regarding the death of Lintuan.

In a television report, Police Regional Director Andres Caro said they understand why Mayor Duterte would not give the information he has to the authorities considering that he is eyed as one of the suspects in Lintuan's death.

Even Task Force Batman head and Southern Mindanao Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) chief Benhur Mongao is mum on the possibility of asking Duterte to help them in their investigation.

However, Caro said if time comes they need the information they will not hesitate in asking the mayor to cooperate with their investigation. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
