Zambo Norte jail escapee surrenders
ZAMBOANGA CITY -- A top police official said one of the seven inmates, who recently bolted from the provincial jail of Zamboanga del Norte, surrendered to the police.
Senior Superintendent Mario Yanga, director of the Zamboanga del Norte Police Provincial Office (ZDNPPO), identified the escapee who surrendered as Bani Abrinica.
Post here your Valentine's Day greetings
Abrinica, 22, is facing charges in court of statutory rape.
Yanga said despite Abrinica's surrender and the recapture of another inmate, there are five more inmates who are still at large.
Maximo Mercado was recaptured past 7 a.m. of January 27 in the village of Upper Irasan in the town of Roxas.
Mercado, 41, is facing charges for acts of lasciviousness.
Those who are still at large are carjacking suspect Gapi Saiman, Jovencio Ramos, Poni Leaño, and Teofe Cating, who are facing robbery cases; and robbery suspect Rowell Sultan.
The inmates bolted from the Zamboanga del Norte provincial jail located in the village of Don Aguirre, Manukan by sawing the iron bars of their detention cell last January 25.
Yanga said pursuit operations continue in a bid to recapture all of the inmates. (Bong Garcia/Sunnex)
