PNP men probed for 'video karera'
By Carlo P. Mallo

DAVAO CITY -- At least four police officers are now under investigation over their alleged involvement in the operations and protection of "video karera" operators in the city.

The Police Regional Office-Southern Mindanao vowed to clean the city of video karera -- an illegal gambling machine.

Chief Superintendent Andres Caro II, police regional director, said the investigation on the four police officers is part of their crackdown on the illegal gaming operations.

Caro, however, refused to identify the policemen claiming this might affect the outcome of the investigation.

Residents, however, are already whispering one particular name. The neighborhood has several video karera machines operating inside houses and makeshift shelters after this well-off police officer started it off.

Caro insisted that their campaign against the illegal machine has been relatively successful.

"With the support of the barangay captains, we will be more successful in our fight against the video karera," Caro said.

Video karera is one of the perennial problems of law enforcers in Davao City. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
