Civil society, biz group, students meet with CBCP (11:06 a.m.)
MANILA -- Members of different groups from civil society, businessmen, students and the academe last Tuesday met with the officials of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
Former CBCP president Oscar Cruz said the dialogue is merely on what the groups' are thinking and what they intend to do on the issues surrounding the present administration.
"They want guidance and leadership. What they want is clarity in guidance on communal action and new people power," he said.
However, Cruz noted that he represents himself as the Archbishop of Lingayen-Dagupan and not as a former official of the bishops' group, adding that they cannot force other bishops to join them as they have their "own mentality and positions on issues."
Nonetheless, the Pangasinan prelate said the group has not reached a concrete agenda as they are scheduled to meet again.
"The group has not established a concrete stand. We will meet again to address other issues," he said, adding that they created a working group that will study their positions.
Aside from Cruz, CBCP president Angel Lagdameo also attended the meeting held at the CBCP.
Cruz added that they are happy that the members of the group are increasing, it started with only 30 members and they are now more than 50 with some business groups and students recently joined them.
"One thing is certain this dialogue will not end here. There will be other talks. It is not just talking, there must be some doing or acting. This is communal action in various degrees," he said.
The groups who attended the meeting were: the Black and White movement, Makati Business Club, Muslim Legal Assistance Foundation, Bangon Pinas, Bayan, among others. (FP/Sunnex) |
