Lozada calls for truth (8:38 p.m.)
MANILA -- Rodolfo "Jun" Lozada, the key witness in the Senate hearing on the questionable National Broadband Network (NBN)-ZTE deal, calls for truth in his speech delivered before his supporters at the Redemptorist Church, Baclaran, Parañaque City Monday amid the celebration of Edsa People Power I that ousted former president Ferdinand Marcos in 1986.
In his speech, Lozada shared his experiences during the previous people power movements. He stressed that Edsa I is one of the biggest gifts that the Filipino people has ever received, saying "Nung Edsa I, maraming tao ang naging malaya (A lot of people were freed)."
He also stressed a lesson he learned from Edsa I, "democracy is from the people, by the people, and for the people."
He added that "the power of the government emanates from the people for the nation's benefit but only a few families are being benefited, and we tolerated it," Lozada said in Filipino.
Throughout his speech, Lozada called the people to fight against evil.
He said, "Evil is the absence of goodness."
Lozada's speech, which was applauded by the churchgoers, ended with a theme, which he himself said is appropriate for today's fight for truth and accountability.
"The true Filipino says the truth, serves the truth." (LRM/Sunnex) |
