Alleged shabu lab owner yields to police By Bong Garcia
ZAMBOANGA CITY -- A top police official announced that the alleged leader of a drug ring and owner of a shabu laboratory discovered in Zamboanga City surrendered to police on Tuesday afternoon in a hotel in Cebu City.
Weng Li Yang, 42, a Chinese national, yielded after he was convinced by his wife to surrender to the two officers from the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) that went to Cebu City to arrest him.

Zamboanga City Police Office Chief Manuel Barcena said Superintendent Roman Arugay and Chief Inspector Erwin Sanque, the city police's investigation and intelligence chiefs, escorted Yang and his wife Wednesday morning back to Zamboanga City respectively.
Yang said he decided to surrender to clear his name and denied allegations that he is a member of an international drug ring.
"Nandito ako nag-surrender...sila walang alam...ko walang alam," Yang said in denying the allegations and about his eight other alleged cohorts. (I have surrendered...they don't know anything...I don't know anything.)
Aside from Yang, also presented to the press on Wednesday in the middle of the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) meeting was another Chinese national, Lucky Ong, and seven Filipinos.
The shabu laboratory discovered in this city was located on a seven-hectare lot in Lamisahan village. Policemen accompanied by a sanitary inspector inspected the place on Friday after residents complained about the water and air pollution caused by the laboratory.
Before the discovery, all that residents knew about the place was that it was a tire recapping plant, after seeing the stockpiles of old tires inside the compound.
Ong said that although he and Yang have been friends for a long time, he does not know anything about Yang's business.
A delivery van containing chemicals allegedly used in the manufacture of shabu was found when lawmen raided his residence Sunday in the village of Tetuan.
He said the delivery van belongs to Yang. "Iwan dao muna niya dito, may importante siya puntahan (He wanted to leave the van with me because he has somewhere important to go to)," Ong said, adding the delivery van was left to him on Friday, the day the shabu laboratory was discovered.
Yang's wife, Janet, was arrested when the lawmen raided their residence also in Tetuan village.
Director Jaime Caringal, chief of the Western Mindanao Police Office (WMPO), said they received reports about Yang belonging to an international drug syndicate.
Caringal said investigation and follow-up operations continue to uncover the other connections of Yang including those within the police ranks. (Sunnex)
