Arroyo revokes EO 464
MANILA (Updated, 4:54 p.m.) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Wednesday revoked Executive Order (EO) 464, which has been preventing government officials from attending congressional inquiries.
The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), in its pastoral letter issued last February 26, called for abolition of EO 464 as part of the campaign against corruption.
Malacañang, as a response, formed a legal team to study the possibility of canceling EO 464.
CBCP has considered the gag order as hindrance to the search for truth on the national broadband network (NBN)-ZTE deal and other controversies.
Also in the same pastoral letter, the bishops did not call for Arroyo's resignation but instead urged to lead the fight for corruption. (Sunnex) |
