Bishop wants independent body to probe NBN mess (7:27 p.m.)

MANILA -- A member of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) is asking for a creation of an independent commission that would establish for the truth to come out on the national broadband network (NBN) deal controversy.

“An independent commission should be established, if we want the truth to come out,” Marawi Bishop Edwin dela Peña said.

He added that it is the right time to create an independent body with powers to summon witness, just like the Watergate Commission who was tasked to investigate the case of former US President Richard Nixon.

“If only the truth would come out most of the issues would be answered,” the Marawi prelate said. (FP/Sunnex)
