Nograles up for Lakas chief By Ben O. Tesiorna
DAVAO CITY -- After taking the helm of the House leadership, Speaker Prospero Nograles is poised to lead the country's biggest political party.
This, after members of the Lakas-CMD allegedly wanted to replace Representative Jose de Venecia Jr. as the party president.

Nograles on Monday met with other officers of the Lakas-CMD including former President Fidel V. Ramos. On the said meeting, a proposal to make de Venecia as emeritus president and appoint a new president of the party was floated.
Among the candidates to replace de Venecia as party president are Nograles, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita, former congressman Prospero Pichay, and Quezon City Mayor Sonny Belmonte.
Nograles, in an interview at his office in Congress, said they are looking for a win-win solution to their problem in Lakas in respect to de Venecia who founded the party along with Ramos. "So that it will not rock the boat and destroy the leadership of the party," he said.
The Dabawenyo Speaker said they would have to take into consideration the opinion and decision of de Venecia before making any moves.
"What is important is for JDV (de Venecia) to decide for himself and not for other members to decide for JDV," Nograles said.
Asked if he would accept the Lakas-CMD presidency if offered, Nograles said as a team player he has no other choice but to do so just as he accepted the post of Speaker when no less than de Venecia nominated him.
Lakas-CMD is calling for a national directorate meeting soon to thresh out the problem before March 13 when Congress takes a break. It was learned that de Venecia is in New York and will be back later this week.
Nograles said they would have to solve this problem within the Lakas-CMD first before merging with the other administration party Kampi. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
