Palace expects truce with Arroyo critics on Pacquiao-Marquez boxing fight (2:33 p.m.)
MANILA -- Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita favors the observance of a one-day “ceasefire” with administration critics and opposition as all Filipinos watches and cheers for People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao when he goes against Mexican Champ Juan Manuel Marquez for the Super Featherweight championship belt on March 16.
Ermita appealed for everyone to pray for Pacquiao whom he described as the “symbol of Filipino courage.”
Pacquiao would be going against Marquez for a 12-round rematch entitled “Unfinished Business” on March 15 (March 16 in Manila) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye said it would be a “very special day” for the Filipinos, expecting to have less traffic and even lower crime rates as everyone watches the boxing match.
“Let us hope for the best for Manny and whatever the result, we know that Manny Pacquiao prepared very hard for this and I’m sure he will fight in a way that will make all Filipino very proud of him,” he said. (JMR/Sunnex) |
