ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Operatives of the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) arrested a 30-year-old woman believed to be an accomplice of an American national accused of illegal recruitment in Zamboanga City, a police official disclosed Friday.

Seventeen residents of this city were stranded in Pasay City after their recruiter, Yeshezkel Goldenberg (not Yeke Goldberz as earlier reported), abandoned them at the airport terminal.

Senior Superintendent Manuel Barcena, director of the ZCPO, said the arrest was made around 2 p.m. Thursday in the village of Tetuan, east of Zamboanga City.

Barcena identified the arrested illegal recruitment accomplice as Raquel Amper, 30, the Filipina live-in partner of Goldenberg, and a resident of Tugbungan village.

He said the arresting team has recovered from Amper's possession 17 pieces of passport claim stabs issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

He said Amper was detained at the detention cell of the ZCPO for investigation pending the filing of appropriate charges against her.

The police continue their manhunt for Goldenberg who allegedly ran away with the more than P1 million paid to him as job placement fee by the victims.

The victims told the police that it was Amper who told them about a direct hiring by Goldenberg for factory workers in Nevada, United States of America (USA).

On Saturday of last week, Goldenberg accompanied the victims to Manila and upon arrival at the Manila Domestic Airport (MDA), told them to wait for him there.

The victims waited for several hours, but Goldenberg did not return, prompting them to file a complaint against the American at the Pasay City Police Station.

The victims, who were holding high positions in local private firms and and in government offices, paid Goldenberg P80,000 each as job placement fee.

Their dream of working in the US turned out to be nightmare as all of them ended up jobless. (Sunnex)
