Palace sets hero's welcome for Pacquiao (7:13 p.m.)

MANILA -- Malacaņang is preparing a hero's welcome for new World Boxing Super Featherweight champion Manny Pacquiao to celebrate his victory over Mexican boxer Juan Manuel Marquez, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said.

Ermita said they expect the hero's welcome to be held after Holy Week when Pacquiao returns to Manila.

He said the forthcoming celebration would be better compared to previous welcomes accorded to Pacquiao as "this is world title."

Because of Pacquiao's victory, said Ermita, other nationalities like Russians and Mongolians are now aware of Filipinos. (JMR/Sunnex)
