Police urged to prioritize Asdala's murder case (6:16 p.m.)
MANILA -- Malacaņang on Tuesday ordered the police to look into the possibility that the killing of Commission on Elections (Comelec) law department head Wynne Asdala could be connected with the murder last November of his predecessor, Alioden Dalaig.
Deputy presidential spokesman Anthony Golez said the Palace condemns the killing of Asdala and urged the police to "prioritize" the case.
"We are calling on the police to take a look at this case which could have connection in any way with killing of his (Asdala's) predecessor. We cannot allow criminals to hold an institution such as the Comelec hostage in fear to propagate any of their selfish interests," Golez said.
Presidential Management Staff Cerge Remonde ordered all law enforcement agencies to "leave no stone unturned in solving the case."
Remonde said Malacaņang was "very concerned" by the incident. "Our concern is as in any murder or assault against human life," he said.
Reports said Asdala just had lunch in a restaurant near the Comelec main office in Intramuros, Manila when he was shot in close range by two unidentified motorcycle-riding men in front of the Manila Cathedral.
Asdala served as assistant to Dalaig, who was shot dead on November 10, 2007 shortly after coming out of a casino in Manila. The case has not yet been solved. (JMR/Sunnex)
