Sipadan kidnapper nabbed in Zambo
ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) operatives have arrested an alleged member of the Abu Sayyaf group reportedly involved in the kidnapping of 21 people in Sipadan, Malaysia eight years ago.
The CIDG reported that the arrest was made recently in front of the Philippine National Red Cross-Zamboanga City chapter office along Rizal Street in downtown Zamboanga.

The arrested suspect was identified as Jaitun Timual, who is reportedly a graduate of a Syrian Training School.
The suspect was in Zamboanga City attending a seminar. He was on his way home when the CIDG arrested him.
The CIDG disclosed that the suspect has a pending warrant of arrest for his alleged participation in the kidnapping of 21 people in 2000 at Sipadan Diving Resort in Sandakan, Sabah, Malaysia.
The hostages -- 10 Europeans and 11 Asians -- were herded by the Abu Sayyaf to the province of Sulu where they were freed in batches following payment of huge amount of ransom.
Timual was detained at the CIDG headquarters in Camp General Eduardo Batalla in Zamboanga City and would be brought anytime to Camp Crame.
He was arrested on the same day the marine troops have killed an Abu Sayyaf follower in Barangay Pansul, Patikul, Sulu. (Bong Garcia/Sunnex)
